Peter Nelson

Director + Director of Photography, The Pollinators Film

Peter has been a Director of Photography for over 26 years and has a diverse body of work including documentaries, feature films and commercials. Feature credits include the Emmy Award-winning documentary Art & Copy and Michael Moore’s Academy Award nominated Sicko. Dramatic features include A Tale of Two Pizzas, Pipe Dream, Suits, and the cult New York romantic comedy Ed’s Next Move which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Peter has done domestic and international documentary work for PBS, HBO, National Geographic, Discovery and the BBC. Commercial work includes campaigns for IBM, Google, SNHU, Black Rock, ESPN/NASCAR, Dunkin Donuts, Volvo and many others. His short film, Dance of the Honey Bee was a finalist in the Phantom Miro short film contest and had its broadcast premiere on the PBS series Moyers & Company. It is part of permanent exhibit at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum’s Tashjian Bee and Pollinator Discovery Center.

Peter received a BFA in Film and Television from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and is the co-owner of Stony Kill Films with his wife, producer Sally Roy. An enthusiastic beekeeper, Peter has kept bees for the past 28 years in upstate New York. A passion for nature and documentaries keeps leading him back to explore the intersection between people and the natural world around us.
