Julitza Nieves is a Slow Food Convivium Leader, Microbiologist, and founder of Productos Montemar, a food community that focuses in the processing of tropical fruits from the area. The groups develops new recipes and possibilities in preservation of fruits grown without the use of pesticides or chemicals. Julitza is also the Farmers’ Market manager of Aguadilla Farmers’ Market and a former manager of “Mercado Agroecologico de RIncón”. Her group teaches about food preservation techniques with different non-profit organizations like Para la Naturaleza, RICO and the University of Puerto Rico.
