Todd Olander

Co-Owner, Olander Farms and Creator, Root Shoot Malting

Root Shoot Malting is deeply grounded and invested in Northern Colorado. Todd and his dad, Steve Olander, owners of Olander Farms, cultivated Root Shoot Malting to specialize in the highest quality of local grain and craft malt available to the brewing and distilling industries. As 5th generation farmers in Loveland, Colorado, we respect the heritage of our region’s agriculture. As partners in the beer industry, we value the high standards of being in one of America’s most esteemed locations for craft beer.

Pride and family values are an essential part of the process at Root Shoot Malting. We take what we learned from the farmers before us, use today’s most innovative agricultural equipment, while making the least impact on our earth to keep the land healthy for the next generation of Root Shoot farmers.

Root Shoot Malting is in the unique position to control the entire malting process from seed variety and growth, to harvest and final kilning. We give Colorado breweries and distilleries the ability to procure local, consistent and high quality craft products.

Todd received his construction management degree from Colorado State University in 2006, and was recognized by Colorado Young Farmers as “Farmer of the Year “ in 2014. In 2015, he traveled to Bamberg, Germany to visit both Weyermann Malthouse and Kaspar Schulz. His malt studies include an intensive program in Winnepeg, Canada at the Canadian Malting Barley Institute in April 2016. In January 2017 he furthered his knowledge of malt by attending an advanced craft malting course at Hartwick College Center for Craft Food and Beverage in Oneonta, New York.
