Tara Rodriguez Besosa

El Departamento de la Comida

Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Tara Rodríguez Besosa is an architect building a world where agroecological concepts and queer practices are used to create resilience through food sovereignty. Tara is the founder of “El Departamento de la Comida” a project born in 2010 as a multi-farm CSA, then a storefront, then a local-sustainable sourced experimental kitchen, restaurant and workshop space in Puerto Rico. She is also the co-founder/co-director of El Fondo de Resiliencia de Puerto Rico, born out of the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and María. This 24 month action campaign is dedicated to impacting 200 sustainable food projects while focusing on 5 pillars: Renewable Energy, Reforestation, Rainwater Collection, Seeds and Soil, and Community Wellbeing.
Tara forms part of Cuir Kitchen Brigade, is an Allied Media Conference Food Track Coordinator, and is the Director of Puerto Rico Headquarters for Americas for Conservation + Arts, a nonprofit based in Colorado.
