Food Waste 101

You’ve probably heard this since you were little: “Eat everything on your plate; there are people starving in ____.” And maybe you’ve heard this statistic: 40% of the food we produce in the U.S. is wasted. It is undeniable that food waste extends beyond us and our trash can, impacting our wallets, communities, food supply, and the global environment. But does all of the wasted food come from our plates?

This talk will cover why food waste is an issue, where it comes from, and how we can take action. Spoiler alert: there are delicious solutions to food waste!

You’ll hear from experts Paul Reilly (executive chef of Beast + Bottle and Coperta), Michael Hurwitz (GrowNYC), and Andrea Spacht (NRDC); moderated by Nancy Painter (Edible Communities). You’ll come away inspired to make practical changes to your plates and beyond. This is Food for Change!
