You’ve probably heard this since you were little: “Eat everything on your plate; there are people starving in ____.” And maybe you’ve heard this statistic: 40% of the food we produce in the U.S. is wasted. It is undeniable that food waste extends beyond us and our trash can, impacting our wallets, communities, food supply, and the global environment. But does all of the wasted food come from our plates?
