Event Picks: for School Gardeners

Communities thrive on storytelling, skill sharing, and nurturing. Home to young and old, the people in communities are always from learning from one another. At Slow Food, we encourage everyone to go back to their roots and play in the dirt. By supporting volunteers, gardeners, and teachers, we work with you to learn about growing, cooking, and enjoying food with younger generations. The School Garden Program aims to teach children about the world of food and farming while also bringing communities closer together.

The garden is a place of life, a hub of resources, a haven to experience nature and learn how we can interact with it. Whether it’s dirt under your nails or grass stains on your knees, school gardens are a place to both learn and grow. We take Slow Food Nations as an opportunity to make our ideas, programs, and curriculum on school gardens available to you. This year’s theme is Where Tradition Meets Innovation, and school gardens embody the new and the old coming together perfectly. We invite you to grow with us, and check out this schedule of school garden-related events below.
